Rocket Money vs Help Me Binge

These two are not really competitors, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. Rocket Money watches your bank account. Help Me Binge watches your viewing. They answer different halves of the same question, and the honest recommendation for a lot of people is to use both.

What Rocket Money does that we cannot:

What it structurally cannot do

Rocket Money sees a charge. It does not see a screen. When it labels a subscription "unused," that is inferred from how recently you were billed — not from whether you watched anything. It can tell you with total confidence that you paid Netflix $17.99 on the 4th. It has no idea whether you have opened it since March.

That is not a flaw in the product; it is the boundary of a bank feed. No amount of transaction data reveals viewing behaviour.

Use both, honestly. Let Rocket Money find everything you're paying for and cancel the ones you've already decided about. Use Help Me Binge to decide which streaming ones — because that decision needs viewing data, and there is no bank feed on earth that has it.

One thing worth thinking about

Rocket Money requires a connection to your bank account. That is a reasonable trade for what it does, and it is a normal, widely-used arrangement. It is also a bigger ask than most people realise, and it is worth making consciously rather than by default.

Help Me Binge asks for nothing. No bank, no card, no account at all unless you want your list synced across devices. You type in what you pay because you already know what you pay.

Find out which streaming services are actually earning their keep

Add your services and prices, tick off what you've watched, and get a cost per hour for each one plus a flag on anything you haven't opened in a month. Free, no account, no bank connection.
