Every TV Time alternative, compared honestly

We are one of these, so read this with that in mind. We have tried to be straight about where the others are better, because a comparison that says we win at everything would not be worth your time. Everything below was checked against each app's own site, store listing and documentation on 29 August 2026. Where we could not confirm something from a primary source, we say so rather than guess.

We could not confirm exact prices for the SeriesGuide pass, the BetaSeries club, or whether the Moviebase upgrade is one-off or recurring, so we have not printed figures we cannot stand behind. Check each app's own store listing before paying for anything.

Where the other apps are genuinely better than us

If one of these matters more to you than what we do, go and use it. Seriously — the point is that you land somewhere good, not here specifically.

Trakt — the ecosystem. Trakt is the plumbing the rest of this category runs on. Dozens of apps, Plex and Kodi scrobblers and media servers sync through its API, and several of the apps in this very table use Trakt as their backend. If you want your watching logged automatically by your media centre, nothing here comes close. Note that VIP went from $30 to $60 a year in August 2025 and the free tier now has item limits.
SeriesGuide — offline and open source. Long-standing, open source, and genuinely local-first: it works with no account at all and backs up to a JSON file you own. If you want a tracker that never phones home, this is the one. The catch is that it is Android only — there is no iPhone version and no web app, and the developers have said there are no plans for one.
Serializd — the reviews. Built as Letterboxd for television, with by far the strongest written-review and social-discovery layer of anything here. If you want to write about what you watch and read what other people thought, it is the better home. It tracks TV only — no films.
Simkl — automatic tracking. The broadest scrobbling support: Kodi, Plex, Jellyfin, browser extensions and a Windows app all log your watching without you touching anything. Worth knowing before you commit: since the TV Time shutdown flooded them, Simkl has made TV Time imports available to paying PRO and VIP members only.
BetaSeries — the migration itself. The most transparent TV Time import of the lot: it queues your file, shows your live position, and emails you when it is done. Strongest French-language community too. It is a queue, so it is not instant.
Showly — the interface. Open source under GPL-3.0, with home-screen widgets and one of the nicer native mobile interfaces in the category, on both iPhone and Android.

The two things only we do

We checked all seven of the apps above against their own sites and store listings. Two columns in that table are empty for every single one of them.

💸 It tells you which subscriptions to cancel. Other trackers let you type in what you pay. Help Me Binge works it out from what you actually watch: the real cost per hour of each service, which ones you have not opened in a month, and the yearly figure sitting on each. It also checks your list against the free ad-supported services and flags what is streaming free right now on Tubi, Pluto TV and the Roku Channel — plus Hoopla and Kanopy with a library card. No other app on this list does this.
🏟 It tracks live sport next to your shows. Follow your teams and get their fixtures in the same place as your episodes, instead of a separate app. None of the seven trackers above handle sport at all.

So which should you actually pick?

You still have your TV Time export zip. Any of Help Me Binge, Trakt, Serializd or BetaSeries will take it. We are the fastest because the file is read in your browser rather than queued on a server, and we are free — but all four get your history back.
You never made an export. This is where most people are, and where most of the list stops being useful. We can rebuild a history without one — from a pasted list of show names, or from your Netflix, Prime Video or Disney+ viewing activity.
You want it logged automatically. Trakt or Simkl, without much question. That is their whole strength and we do not compete with it.
You are on Android and want to own your data. SeriesGuide. Open source, offline, no account, local backups.
You are wondering what all this streaming is costing you. That is the reason we exist, and on this list it is only us.
