Trakt is a capable tracker with a long history, and for one job — automatic scrobbling from Plex, Kodi or Jellyfin — it's still the strongest tool available. We'd rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise. But 2026 has changed what the free tier does.
Since 22 July 2026, a free Trakt account can connect one third-party app. Trakt's own announcement puts it this way: “The free plan is intended to support a straightforward personal workflow with one Community App.” Existing connections above the limit keep working for now — but Trakt also notes that if an app “loses its authorization and needs to connect again, that is treated as a new authorization and the current limit will apply.” So a reinstall or an expired token brings the limit into force.
For a lot of people that's the whole point gone. As one user put it on Trakt's forum: “The reason I use Trakt is to sync between different apps. What's the point if it will only link with one app.” Kodi users are hit hardest — Kodi's own Trakt integration uses one connection, and any Trakt-enabled addon uses a second.
It sits on top of a year of tightening: February 2026 brought a full limits table for free accounts (250 watchlist items, 5 personal lists, 100 notes); March 2026 retired the automatic Dropbox and Google Drive backups that used to be a VIP perk; and by 15 July 2026 the old V2 interface was gone for everyone, VIP included. VIP itself is $60/year, or $6/month billed monthly — up from $30 in May 2025, when Trakt also ended the grandfathered pricing it had previously promised to honour.
If that's you, the good news is that a watch history is rebuildable — and a tracker doesn't have to cost anything, or even ask for an email address, to do its job well. Help Me Binge has no connection limits and no paid tier — sync is free on every device.
Every figure above is from Trakt's own announcements on forums.trakt.tv, checked 3 August 2026. Trakt hasn't published how many connections VIP allows — its announcement says only “more”. If any of this has changed since, tell us and we'll correct it.
Honest caveat: pasting a list rebuilds your library, not your per-episode watch dates. For shows you're mid-way through, you mark where you are — the progress picker makes that quick.

That last row matters: if automatic scrobbling from a media server is essential to how you track, Trakt remains the better tool for that specific job, and we'd rather tell you that than waste your afternoon. For everyone who marks episodes by hand anyway — most people — nothing here will feel like a downgrade, and the price is zero.
